The TREFFA company strives to provide our clients with exemplary hunting expeditions in Hungary. Hungary is an attractive country offering you excellent opportunities that lead to successful hunts. However, there is far more to do in Hungary than just hunt, for example a visit to historic castles and fortresses, or a day on the beach at the Balaton make your trip more like a holiday that provides fun for the entire family or group. The thermal waters unique to Hungary, traditional Hungarian cuisine, and sightseeing possibilites in Budapest and Debrecen are also great activities to experience.
To create your custom hunting excursion inform our staff about the type of wildlife you wish to hunt and when your wish to go.
Our knowledgeable staff are skilled at finding the best hunting areas, the most ideal seasons in which to hunt, and they are skilled at securing the best hunting accomodations at the most affordable rates. Combining the hunting of different types of game into your trip is also an option. Our informative staff are there to advise you should you have any questions.
Once you have decided what to hunt, we will send you an offer that includes your trip itinerary from your arrival to your departure.
We provide transportation to the hunting site for our guests arriving by plane.
Hunters arriving by car receive a roadmap outlining the route to the hunting area.
At this meeting point you will be greeted by a representative from our company who will meet with you to discuss the program for the next few days.
Guides to popular tourist atractions in the area are also provided upon request.
A hunting contract is created for members of your group upon your acceptance of our hunting offer.
Once you send back the hunting contract with your signature you will receive a „Letter of Invitation”, which you will need to enter Hungary. This document contains the following details: the type of rifle or shotgun in your possession, the factory number, the caliber, the number of cartridges, your name and passport number.
Anyone who wishes to hunt in Hungary should have a Hungarian hunting license and possess appropriate insurance. Our company office issues all of the documents you will need, however please write your passsport number, the number of your hunting license or gun license in your own country on the hunting contract.

HOW TO IMPORT A HUNTING WEAPON
1.) If you do not possess a European Hunting License
The License for the import and export of a hunting weapon can be obtained from the Hungarian custom authorities. The license is provided when the prospective guest hunter presents his or her valid letter of invitation, a hunting-gun license that is valid in the visitor’s own country, presents his or her valid passport and pays the custom fee. The fee is 3 000 HUF (12,5 EUR, 16 USD). PLEASE NOTE: Individuals have an opportunity to exchange money at every border station if necessary.
The license is valid for 90 days and the hunting-guns must not be kept in Hungary for a longer period of time. This license must also be presented when leaving Hungary and it must be left in the office of the border station where you cross the border.
Where to get your License for the import and export of a hunting weapon
This license may be obtained at the airport:
After being granted clearance by the airport passport control please proceed to the customs officer with your luggage and hunting weapons(Things to Declare) The officer wil then issue you this license.
Arriving by land: After being granted clearance by passport controll, you are issued this document by the Hungarian customs officer.
2.) If you do possess a European Firearm Licence
While in possession of this license stoping at the border station and applying for the „Licence for the import and export of a hunting weapon" is no longer required.
All hunters are responsible for keeping the necessary travel documents, more specifically passport, hunting license, the letter of invitation, insurance and the European Firearm Licence, that are required by the governments of specific countries with them when they travel.
In Hungary, shotguns can be used to hunt only small game. An excaption os made for wild boar, which can also be hunted with a shotgun.
Only three numbers of ammunition can be inserted in semi-automatic shotguns. We suggest you bring your own rifle or shotgunwith you, but renting is also a possibility. Shotgun ammunition is always available, however if you have any special requirements you are best to request this in advance. For rifles, guests must bring their own ammunition.
HUNTING METHODS IN HUNGARY
Individual hunting:

REGULAR DEALINGS WITH TROPHIES:
- In Hungary, hunters have to submit the following trophies for judgement: the antler of stag, falloow deer stang and roe buck; the horn of mufflon ram;the tusk of wild boar if its size exceeds 16 cm. Trophies have to be submitted for judgement within 30 days after the successful shooting of the game.
- Trophies of high international credit (IP) must be submitted by the hunting authority to the ministry for further judging in order to declare that they represent a national value. Minimum Ips for which hunters have to submit the trophy for further judgement:
Red deer: 240 IP
Fallow deer: 200 IP
Mouflon: 220 IP
Roe deer: 170 IP
Wild boar: 130 IP
AFTER HUNTING:
- At the end of your hunting experience the representative of the hunting area records all bagged and wounded game on the hunting protocol. We prepare the invoice in accordance with this protocol signed by the representative of the hunting area and the hunting guests.
- We provide the documentation needed to import from Hungary to abroad.
- To take the trophies (antler, horn, tusk, feather) to the EU countries the folowing are required: veterinary consent, trophy invoice, the invoice provided by the host office that organized the hunting tour.
